Chernyakhovsk

City in Kaliningrad oblast (region), western Russian Federation; population (2001 est) 42,900. Chernyakhovsk is on the main Minsk–Kaliningrad railway line, 75 km/47 mi east of Kaliningrad. It has engineering and metalworking industries.

The city was founded as a castle in 1337 by the Teutonic Knights, and became a town in 1583.
