Tswana

Member of the majority ethnic group living in Botswana. The Tswana are divided into four subgroups: the Bakwena, Bamangwato, Bangwaketse, and Batawana. The Tswana language belongs to the Bantu branch of the Niger-Congo family.

Traditionally they are farmers and animal breeders, though many now leave their homes to work as migrant labourers in South African industries. The basic units of organization are wards comprising lineally related groups, and the men of each tribe form age sets.
