Tuapse

Seaport city in Krasnodar krai (territory) of the southwestern Russian Federation, on the Black Sea; population (2001 est) 66,100. The city has engineering industries producing machinery for the oil industry, and the largest ship-repair yard in the Black Sea area. Oil refining and food processing are also important economic activities. A pipeline carrying oil for export runs to Tuapse from Grozny in Chechnya. Several holiday resorts are located nearby.
