| Percussion instrument (approximate range C2–F3), consisting of 18 tuned metal tubes of different lengths, which hang in a frame. They are struck at the top end with a rawhide mallet, and the resonance can be muted with a foot-operated damper. They produce bell effects, used both in orchestral works and opera music. |
