Tucumcari

City and administrative headquarters of Quay County, northeastern New Mexico, on a main road between Albuquerque and Amarillo, Texas; population (1990) 6,800. It is a tourist and truck stop and a trade centre for cattle and grain producers.

At a former cattle trail watering point, it was founded in 1901 on the Rock Island Railroad.
