Tumanyan, Barseg (1958– )

Armenian bass. He studied at La Scala, Milan and the Moscow Conservatory. From 1980 he sang with the Spendiaryan Opera (Armenia) and after 1988 performed widely in the West: Basilio at Naples and for his US debut at Boston, in 1989; Ramfis, Colline, Attila, and Basilio at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, from 1990; and King Philip in Don Carlos (Los Angeles, 1990). During the 1993 season he appeared as Méphistophélès (Faust) and Escamillo at the Opéra Bastille, Paris.
