Tunder, Franz (1614–1667)

German composer and organist. As organist of St Mary's Church, Lübeck, he greatly improved the church music and also instituted the Abendmusiken/Evening Music concerts, which soon became famous beyond the town and were further developed by Dietrich Buxtehude.

In 1632 he was appointed court organist at Gottorf and in 1641 organist of St Mary's, where he preceded Buxtehude, who had to marry his daughter in order to secure the post.
