Tunica County

County in northwestern Mississippi, on the Mississippi River; area 1,191 sq km/460 sq mi; population (1990) 8,200. Its capital is Tunica (population (1990) 1,200). Overwhelmingly agricultural, producing cotton, rice, soybeans, corn, and timber, it is also very poor. In the 1990s the development of casinos on the river provided some economic growth.
