Turandot

Incidental music for Schiller's Germany version of Gozzi's play by Weber, Op. 37, composed in 1809 and including the Overtura cinese/Chinese Overture, which was composed on a Chinese theme in 1805.

Opera by Busoni (German libretto by composer, based on Gozzi's play), produced at Zurich on 11 May 1917, together with another short opera Arlecchino. The music of Turandot was elaborated from incidental music for Max Reinhardt's production of K Vollmöller's version of Gozzi's play, produced at the Deutsches Theater, Berlin, on 27 October 1911.

Opera by Puccini (Italian libretto by G Adami and R Simoni, based on Gozzi's play). It was left unfinished by Puccini and was completed by Alfano and produced at La Scala, Milan, on 25 May 1926. IN the story, Calaf saves his head by answering three riddles of cold-hearted Turandot, and eventually wins her love.
