Gregarious thrush Turdus pilaris of the family Muscicapidae, order Passeriformes; it has chestnut upperparts with a pale-grey lower back and neck, and a dark tail. The bird's underparts are a rich ochre colour, spotted with black. Its nest is of long fine grass with an intervening layer of mud; it may be built in birch or fir trees at a height of 5 m/16 ft or less. It feeds on berries, insects, and other invertebrates.

It breeds in Scandinavia and northern Russia, and is a casual visitor to North America.
