Turina, Joaquín

    0.06 sec.

Turina, Joaquín (1882–1949)

Spanish composer. He devoted much time to teaching as well as composition and wrote a small treatise expounding his aims in teaching music, Enciclopedia abreviada de música (1917). His most successful works are those which employ local Spanish colours, such as La procesion del Rocio (1913) and Danzas fantásticas (1920).

He studied at Seville and Madrid, and later with Vincent d'Indy at the Schola Cantorum in Paris. He adopted conventional European forms more consistently than his contemporaries Albéniz, Granados, and Falla.
