TurkMember of any of the Turkic-speaking peoples of Asia and Europe, especially the principal ethnic group of Turkey. Turkic languages belong to the Altaic family and include Uzbek, Ottoman, Turkish, Azeri, Turkoman, Tatar, Kirghiz, and Yakut. The ancestors of the Turks were pastoral nomads in central Asia. Islam was introduced during the 7th century.
