Turner, Ben (1863–1942)

British trade union leader and politician. After working as the general secretary of the textile workers' union 1902–22, he was elected president of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in 1928. He was a Labour MP 1922–24 and 1929–31.

Turner was born in Holmfirth, Yorkshire, and began work at a textile mill. In 1929 he was appointed secretary for mines in the Labour government, but soon resigned to resume his trade union work. He was knighted in 1931.
