Turner, Tina

Turner, Tina (1939– )

US rhythm-and-blues singer and film actor. She recorded 1960–76 with her husband Ike Turner (1931–2007). Their collaborations include River Deep, Mountain High (1966), produced by Phil Spector, and Workin' Together (1970). After separating from her husband, she went on to achieve success as a solo artist, recording such albums as Private Dancer (1984), Break Every Rule (1986), Wildest Dreams (1997), and Twenty-Four Seven (2000). She also established a reputation as a highly accomplished live performer.

Her film roles have included parts in the Who's film Tommy (1974), and in Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome (1985). She has contributed music to film soundtracks, including the James Bond film Goldeneye (1995). She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991.
