Tuxedo Park| Village in Tuxedo township, southeastern New York, on the Ramapo River and Tuxedo Lake, 24 km/15 mi northwest of Nyack; population (1990) 700. It was developed in 1886 as a private residential community and remains an affluent suburban area. |
| Its name became synonymous with wealth and power, and the dinner jackets worn here soon became known as ‘tuxedos’. It was opened to somewhat more modest housing in 1941. |
