Twentieth Century Fox

US film-production company, formed in 1935 when the Fox Company merged with Twentieth Century. Its president was Joseph Schenck (1878–1961), with Darryl F Zanuck (1902–1979) vice-president in charge of production. The company made high-quality films and, despite a financial crisis in the early 1960s, remained a major studio. Successes include the Star Wars trilogy (1977–1983). The studio is now owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, which also owns the Fox Television Network.
