Twentynine Palms

Twentynine Palms

City in southern California, at the edge of the Colorado and Mojave deserts, 200 km/125 mi east of Los Angeles; population (1990) 11,800. It is an oasis and health resort, and the headquarters of the Joshua Tree National Park.

Bordering the city to the north is the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, a ‘war games’ facility that embraces the Bullion Mountains. The Twentynine Palms (Luiseño) Indian Reservation is here.
