Twiggy (1949– )

English model. Known as the ‘face of 1966’, she became the symbol of the decade. She later turned to singing, dancing, and acting, and appeared in several films, including The Boyfriend (1971) and The Blues Brothers (1980).

Twiggy was born in London. She began her modelling career in 1966, and instantly shot to fame. Her adolescent gaucheness emphasized the 1960s mini dresses, pale tights, and loon pants she modelled, and her short hair epitomized the boyish look in vogue at the time. She appeared in newspapers and magazines worldwide, including French and British Elle and American Vogue.
