Tyrconnell, Richard Talbot, Earl of Tyrconnell (1630–1691)

Irish Jacobite soldier and administrator. A zealous Catholic, he was made lord-deputy of Ireland by James II in 1687. After James's forces were defeated by William (III) of Orange at the Battle of the Boyne and Limerick in 1690, Tyrconnell followed James into exile in France. He returned the following year to Ireland to resume fighting, but died suddenly.
