Tyrell, George William (1883–1961)

English geologist who specialized in the field of petrology. His main work Principles of Petrology was the standard textbook of its time.

Tyrell was educated at the Royal College of Science, London, and then moved to Glasgow University. His studies concentrated especially on the igneous rocks of Western Scotland and the Midland Valley of Scotland.
