Tyrrell, George

    0.04 sec.

Tyrrell, George (1861–1909)

Irish cleric and writer. His calls for reform within the Roman Catholic Church brought him into conflict with the authorities, leading to his expulsion from the Jesuits and, ultimately, his excommunication.

Tyrrell was born in Dublin into a Protestant family. He converted to the Roman Catholicism, entered the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), and was ordained a priest in 1891. Among his best-known writings are Nova et Vetera, 1897, The Faith of the Millions, 1902, and Christianity at the Crossroads, 1909.
