Tyrrell, John (1942– )

English musicologist. He studied at Cape Town and Oxford universities. He was lecturer at Nottingham University in 1976, reader in opera studies in 1989, and was on the editorial staff of New Grove (1980) and Opera Grove (1992) dictionaries, with articles on Janáček and his operas. He published Káta Kabanová (1982), Czech Opera (1988), Janáček's Operas: A Documentary Account (1992), and Intimate Letters: Janáček's Correspondence with Kamila Stösslova (1994).
