Tywyn

Coastal resort in Gwynedd, northwest Wales, situated on Cardigan Bay; population (2001) 3,250. Its church of St Cadfan is a fine example of Norman architecture, and the largest Norman church in the area. Inside the church is an inscribed stone dating from the 7th century, thought to be the most ancient example of the use of the Welsh language.

THE CLOSURE of five primary schools in the Tywyn area moved closer yesterday.
THE future of five primary schools earmarked for closure in the Tywyn area will be discussed by Gwynedd council's board today.
Llais Gwynedd councillor Louise Hughes, who has two schools in her ward under threat - Llanegryn with around 35 pupils and Llwyngwril with 32 - said: "Gwynedd Council have embarked on formal consultations in the Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn catchment area with the view of closing primary schools.
