Lick Observatory

Observatory of the University of California at Mount Hamilton, California. Established in 1888, its main instruments are the 3.04-m/120-in Shane reflector, opened in 1959, and a 91-cm/36-in refractor, opened in 1988, the second-largest refractor in the world. The Automated Planet Finder (APF) is a robotically operated telescope that will search automatically on every clear night for tiny wobbles in the motion of stars. Such wobbles will reveal the presence of small, rocky planets orbiting the stars.
