Uchinoura Space Centre

Formerly called the Kagoshima Space Centre, launch site of JAXA, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. It is situated in Kagoshima Prefecture on South Kyushu Island. Japan's first satellite was launched from the site in 1970. More than 360 rockets have subsequently been launched from USC.

JAXA's work at Kagoshima is concerned with the research aspects of Japan's space programme; practical applications are investigated at the Tanegashima Space Centre.
