Udon Thani

Capital of Udon Thani province in northeast Thailand, on the Khorat Plateau, 564 km/350 mi north of Bangkok; population (2000 est) 220,500. It is the centre of a communications network of road, rail, and air transport, and the commercial centre of a large agricultural and forested area. It has extensive trade in rice, hardwood timber, freshwater fish, and livestock, especially cattle and pigs.
