Uhl, Fritz (1928– )

Austrian tenor. He first sang in operetta, making his opera debut at Graz in 1950. He sang widely in Europe and was a member of the Munich opera from 1957. He appeared in Wagner roles at Bayreuth between 1957 and 1964 as Siegmund, Erik, and Loge. He sang the title role in Solti's recording of Tristan und Isolde (1960), and in 1962 sang Walther at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. He was made a professor at the Vienna Conservatory in 1981.
