Unger, (Gustav) Hermann (1886–1958)

German composer. He studied in Munich and later with Reger at Meiningen. He taught for more than 30 years in Cologne, and wrote books on Reger and Bruckner, and a treatise on harmony (1946).

the operas Richmondis (1928) and De Zauberhandschuh; incidental music for Shakespeare's Tempest, Kleist's Penthesilea, Hofmannsthal's Der Tor und der Tod, Hauptmann's Hannele, Unruh's Heinrich aus Andernach and many other plays.

Choral

Der Gott und die Bajadere (Goethe) and Old German Songs for chorus and orchestra.

Other

two symphonies; chamber music; songs.
