Union City

Town in Alameda County, north-central California; population (1990) 53,800. It is situated on Alameda Creek and east San Francisco Bay, 24 km/15 mi south-southeast of Oakland, between Fremont and Hayward. It is a residential and industrial suburb with nurseries, salt evaporators, a sugar refinery, and iron, steel, and aluminium plants.

Town in Fulton County, northwest Georgia; population (1990) 8,400. It is located 23 km/14 mi southwest of Atlanta, and is a growing residential suburb.

Town in , Hudson County, northeast New Jersey; population (1990) 58,100. It is situated on the Hudson River across from Manhattan, 5 km/3 mi northeast of Jersey City. It was created in 1925 from the consolidation of West Hoboken and Union Hill. It has long been known for the manufacture of embroidery and silk; also produced are soaps, perfume, corrugated paper, and light bulbs. The town has a large population of Latin American immigrants, and is a Hispanic hub, with particularly strong ties to the Cuban community in Miami, Florida.

Town and administrative headquarters of Obion County, northwest Tennessee; population (1990) 10,500. It is located 8 km/5 mi south of the Kentucky state border. It is a transportation hub for an agricultural area producing corn, cotton, soybeans, dairy goods, and livestock. Industries include meatpacking and the manufacture of textiles, auto parts, and clothing. Reelfoot Lake, 24 km/15 mi to the west, is one of a number of nearby recreational assets.
