Unitas, John Constantine (1933–2002)

US football player. He was signed by the Baltimore Colts in 1956 and as Colt quarterback for 17 seasons, Unitas led the team to five NFL championship titles in the years 1958–71. Following his release from the Colts, Unitas played for the San Diego Chargers in 1973. He was one of the greatest passers in the history of the game.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Unitas was a football star for the University of Louisville. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL) in 1955 where he played for one season.

He was elected to the Football Hall of Fame in 1979.
