United Provinces

Federation of states in the northern Netherlands 1579–1795, comprising Holland, Zeeland, Friesland, Gelderland, Utrecht, Overijssel, and Groningen. Established by the Union of Utrecht, its aim was to assert independence from the Spanish crown. See Netherlands.
