SorbonneCommon name for the University of Paris, originally a theological institute founded 1253 by Robert de Sorbon, chaplain to Louis IX. Richelieu ordered the reconstruction of the buildings in 1626, which were again rebuilt 1885. In 1808, the Sorbonne became the seat of the Académie of Paris and of the University of Paris.
