Unwin, Stanley (1884–1968)

English publisher. An international figure in publishing, he became chairman of the firm of George Allen and Unwin, founded in 1914, and was president of the Publishers Association of Great Britain 1933–35 and the International Publishers Association 1936–38 and 1946–54. His books include The Truth about Publishing (1926; revised 1960) and Publishing in Peace and War (1944).

Unwin was educated at Abbotsholme School, Staffordshire, and studied the book-trade in Germany. His autobiography, The Truth about a Publisher, was published in 1960.
