Upper Sandusky

Town in Wyandot County, northwest Ohio; population (1990) 5,900. It is situated on the Sandusky River, 31 km/19 mi north-northwest of Marion. Initially a mill town in a productive agricultural area that also had limestone quarries, Upper Sandusky subsequently developed a variety of industries.

Founded in 1843, the town was laid out on the site of a Huron tribal centre. A mission had been in the area since the 1820s. The Huron were moved to Kansas in the 1840s, but their museum remains here.
