Ur-Hamlet

An anonymous English play, now lost, written about 1589. Several contemporary references suggest it may have been written by Thomas Kyd. Its original name is not known: scholars named it Ur-Hamlet (or sometimes Source Hamlet) because it was almost certainly one of the sources Shakespeare used when writing his tragedy Hamlet, Prince of Denmark 1600.
