Urbani, Peter (1749–1816)

Italian singer, publisher, and composer. After a period in London he went to Glasgow in 1780 and to Edinburgh in 1784. He sang Scottish songs with words by Burns (with whom he made friends) and others, and later published them with his own accompaniments. Towards the end of the century he became a music-seller and publisher, but after his business failed in about 1810 he went to Dublin, where he died in poverty.
