Uribe Holguín, Guillermo (1880–1971)

Colombian composer. In 1910 he became director of the National Conservatory at Bogotá, where he founded and conducted symphonic concerts.

He studied at home and with Vincent d'Indy at the Schola Cantorum in Paris.

Works

Orchestral

11 symphonies (1916–59), 3 Danzas, Carnavelesca, Marche funèbre, Marche de fête, Suite tipica, all for orchestra; concert and Villanesca for piano and orchestra, two violin concertos.

Choral

Requiem.

Chamber

ten string quartets, piano quartet, two piano quintets; five violin and piano sonatas, two cello and piano sonatas.

Other

piano pieces, including 300 folk dances; songs.
