User Datagram Protocol

Communications protocol that, like the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), runs on top of the Internet Protocol (IP). UDP tolerates packets of information being lost or corrupted en route to their destination. This tolerance is an advantage if the message is one where drop-outs are less damaging than delays caused by attempts at error recovery, for example, when speech is broadcast across the Internet.
