Ussachevsky, Vladimir

Ussachevsky, Vladimir (Aleksei) (1911–1990)

US composer of Russian parentage. He moved to the USA in 1930 and studied with Hanson at the Eastman School. He was professor at Columbia University, New York, 1964–80, and collaborated with Luening in pioneering the development of electronic music.

Works

Electronic

(some with Luening) Celebration for string orchestra and electronic valve instruments (1980); Sonic Contours for tape (1952), Incantation for tape (1953), Rhapsodic Variations for orchestra and tape (1954).

Choral

Creation Prologue for four chorus and tape (1961), Missa brevis for soprano, chorus and brass (1972).
