Ussuri

River in the Russian Far East forming the frontier between the northern Chinese province of Heilongjiang and the Russian Federation; length 575 km/357 mi. The Ussuri rises in the Sikhote-Alin mountain range, and flows north to join the Amur at Khabarovsk; it is navigable for most of its length. One of its tributaries forms the outlet of Lake Khanka.

The final stretch of the Trans-Siberian Railway, from Khabarovsk to Vladivostok, runs along the Ussuri valley. The Ussuri was the scene of serious border clashes between China and the Soviet Union in 1964, and again in 1968–69 over the sovereignty of Damansky Island (Chenpao).
