Ussurisk

City in Primorski (English Maritime) krai (territory) in the Russian Far East, on the Suyfun River 80 km/50 mi north of Vladivostok; population (1996 est) 161,000. It has coal mines, sugar refineries, breweries, and transport-repair industries. The city also produces rice and soya oil. Ussurisk is located at the junction of the Trans-Siberian and Chinese Eastern railways.

Founded in 1866, Ussurisk became a town in 1898, and was the administrative centre of Ussuri oblast in the Far Eastern krai (territory) from 1933–43.
