Utah County

County in north-central Utah; area 5,175 sq km/1,998 sq mi; population (1990) 263,600. Provo is its administrative headquarters. It is an area of irrigated farming, mining, and resorts. The large Utah Lake lies within the county's borders. In the east is part of the Wasatch Range, including Mount Timpanogos and the Timpanogos Cave National Monument, as well as a section of the Uinta National Forest. In the west is part of the Oquirrh Mountains. The county contains much of the Utah Valley, a fruit growing region noted for its cherries. Livestock, hay, sugar beets, and truck farm crops are also raised. Also in Utah County are iron, copper, silver, lead, and zinc mines, and several ski resorts.
