Utendal, Alexander (c. 1535–1581)

Flemish composer. He learnt music as a choirboy in the Archduke Ferdinand's chapel in Prague, and in 1566 became a singer in his chapel at Innsbruck. In c. 1572 he became second Kapellmeister. On the death of Scandello at Dresden in 1580 he was offered the post of Kapellmeister to the Saxon court, but declined it.
