Uthal

Opera by Méhul (libretto by J M B B de Saint-Victor, based on Ossian), produced at the Opéra-Comique, Paris, on 17 May 1806. The work is scored without violins. Malvina's husband Uthal deposes her father Larmor as tribal chief: she is torn between love for them both. Larmor's troops defeat Uthal and Malvina joins him in exile before being pardoned.
