Utzon, Jørn (1918–2008)

Sydney Opera House, New South Wales, Australia, was opened in 1973. The sail-shaped roof is intended to echo the sails in the harbour.

Danish architect. His design for the Sydney Opera House, one of the iconic buildings of the 20th century, won an international competition in 1957 (he resigned from the project in 1966). He won architecture's Pritzker Prize in 2003.

Utzon was born in Copenhagen and is also known as a designer of furniture, lamps, and glassware. Other designs include housing complexes, public buildings, and a church.
