VMS

In computing, operating system created in 1978 by DEC for its VAX minicomputers. VMS has since been rewritten for DEC Alpha based machines, and renamed OpenVMS. OpenVMS provides a high level of availability, scalability, and data integrity, and is still a very good operating system for operations that use large volumes of data. Applications written for Windows NT can also run without difficulty in OpenVMS.
