Aircraft that can take off and land vertically. Helicopters, airships, and balloons can do this, as can a few fixed-wing aeroplanes, like the convertiplane.

GL Court, E London A THIS was the nickname for an experimental vertical-take-off-and-land (VTOL) plane, the prototype for the world's first VTOL aircraft, the Harrier jump jet, which first flew in 1966.
His aim was to invent a personal VTOL aircraft (vertical take-off and landing, the same as used in Harrier Jump Jets).
The Eagle VTOL aerial rescue platform's design is based on a ducted fan technology, powered by a number of internal combustion engines, on top of which a double-deck occupied area is mounted.
