Vachon, Pierre

Vachon, Pierre (1731–1803)

French violinist and composer. He studied in Paris, where he appeared at the Concert Spirituel from 1756. He was principal violinist in the orchestra of the Prince of Conti from 1761. In 1772 and around 1775 he visited England; later he settled in Berlin, where he was appointed Konzertmeister to the court in 1786.

Operas

Les Femmes et le secret (1767), Sara, ou La Fermière écossaise (1773), Hippomène et Atalante (1769), Esope à Cythère (1766), Renaud d'Ast (both with J C Trial).

Instrumental

violin concertos; chamber music, including about 40 string quartets; sonatas for violin and bass.
