Valenti, (Joseph) Jack (1921-2007)

US motion picture executive. He was president of the Motion Picture Association of America 1966-2004. He co-wrote a new code for movies (1966) which intended to reflect, rather than dictate, public values. Valenti was born in Houston, Texas. He was a decorated bomber pilot during World War II and later cofounded and ran an advertising agency (1952-63). He helped to coordinate Lyndon B Johnson's inauguration (1963) and then became the president's special assistant (1963-66).
