Valentinian II (AD 371 or 372–392)

Roman emperor from AD 375, born in Milan, son of Valentinian I. On the death of his father, he was proclaimed emperor by the troops at Acquincum (present-day Belgrade). His uncle, Valens, who had been ruling the eastern part of the empire since AD 364, and his brother, Gratian, gave him Italy, Africa, and Illyricum to rule, under the regency of his mother, Justina. He was found dead, possibly murdered, 392 at Vienne.
